How to Stop the Spread of Germs

The NSW Health have recently issues a warning of rise in gastroenteritis among children, particularly under 5 years of age. They have recommended proper hand hygiene to prevent catching the illness and remaining at home if you have stomach upset to help prevent the spread of the virus. Gastroenteritis is highly contagious and NSW Health are warning of higher than average cases reported so far this year also affecting the adult population. Hand hygiene is particularly important this time of year with the flu season approaching. Please take note of the proper instructiosbelow to ensure you are able to stop the spread of germs. Also remember to carry hand sanitiser for those times you are out and about without access to soap and water.

New Additions to the Integral Health Team

We are pleased to announce we have two new Registrar Doctors starting at the practice.

Dr Kazuki Sumitomo joins us from Inverell and has also previously worked at the Gold Coast University Hospital. He enjoys all aspects of general practice with particular interest in chronic disease management, minor skin procedures and children’s health.

Dr Maggie Day joins our practice as a registrar who has been working in Guyra for the past 12 months. Prior to this she has worked in Tamworth and Wollongong. Maggie enjoys all aspects of General Practice.

Why is it Important to see your Medicare Card?

As part of optimal care we need to verify your identity. It is important to ensure we have up to date details on our system so we will also check your address, phone number and next of kin details. This will allow any referrals, request forms or scripts generated in the consultation to be accurate. Correct details will also allow you to claim your refund from Medicare and have your prescriptions count towards your PBS safetynet.

Stay Tuned for Season Vaccine Update

We are eagerly waiting for our supply of flu immunisations. Hopefully we will know more about their availability at the end of March.

Stay tuned for more information.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia is asking Australia to get involved and help create awareness and raise the much-needed funds to help in the fight against prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in Australia with almost 20,000 diagnoses and close to 3,500 deaths each year.

We encourage all men over 50 – or over 40 if you have a family history - to talk with your GP about your prostate health. Prostate cancer testing can be a complex subject, that’s why we recommend that you talk with your GP about what is best for you. For more information you can also visit the Prostate Cancer Foundation website.

Help us spread the message and keep Aussie tradies healthy. For tips and resources to encourage tradies to look after their most valuable asset, their health, visit the Tradies Health website.

Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL) Reaccreditation

Integral Health Armidale has successfully been reaccreditated by Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL). This important recognition from AGPAL, the leading not-for-profit provider of general practice accreditation services within Australia, is a voluntary process and demonstrates our commitment to providing the highest quality in health care.

AGPAL Chair Dr Richard Choong said accreditation shows the practice makes a significant investment and commitment to quality on a day-to-day basis, across all levels of the practice team. “Achieving accreditation is a major achievement for any practice and a clear demonstration that Integral Health Armidale is striving to improve their level of care to both patients and the community,” he said. “Practices seek accreditation because they want to do their best and view this as another step towards excellence in patient care."

To achieve accreditation, a practice team works over a 12 month period to implement the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Standards for general practices, (the recognised national standard), which provides a template for quality care and risk management. The AGPAL accreditation program was developed to provide a range of minimum expectations for patients surrounding safety and care by assessing the practice environment and their processes. Accreditation was developed jointly by AGPAL and primary health organisations and peak bodies, including the Australian Medical Association (AMA). Areas of focus during an on-site assessment for accreditation include: ensuring vaccines are within their use-by-date and stored at the correct temperatures; that the practice equipment is clean and sterile; practice staff are up-to-date with their training; and the practice has emergency care available.

Dr Choong said accreditation is attainable only through cooperation and communication between staff members. "Everyone at the practice plays a valuable role in working to meet the RACGP Standards. It gives staff a real sense of pride to work in an accredited practice," added Dr Choong.

Tradies National Health Month

Tradies National Health Month aims to raise awareness of the risks posed to those who work in trade occupations among individuals, their families, employers and the wider community.

While we've seen improvements, Australia's trade industry continues to have among the highest health and safety issues of any sector. Time off work due to poor health and injury has a significant impact on business, communities, the health system and the economy and this impact will grow if we don't take steps to change behaviour.

This year the Australian Physiotherapy Association is calling on employers, as well as tradies and physiotherapists to get behind Tradies National Health Month and spread the message from the top down. The APA is urging employers and unions of trade occupations to prioritise their employees' health now and into the future.

Tradies health must be everyone's priority. This month and all employers, physiotherapist and tradies have a chance to get involved. Find out more.

Revised Policy For Bulk Billed Consultation Fees

In order to ensure that we are able to continue to provide high quality healthcare services for our patient's Integral Health Armidale will introduce a revised fee structure with regard to patients who are eligible for Bulk Billed consultations. The revised fee structure will commence from Monday, July 18th 2016.

This difficult decision has been forced upon us through the continued devaluation of your Medicare Rebate by all political parties since Medicare was introduced. As illustrated in the graph below your Medicare Rebate has not kept pace with the ever increasing cost of delivering the quality healthcare services that Integral Health Armidale strives to provide and which our patients expect from us.

For more information on our Bulk Billing policy please refer to our Consultation Fees Page.
